                                                         K9 VETERANS DAY
                               IN PENNSYLVANIA

The WKACP is proud to be part of the effort to get a Pennsylvania State Resolution started for an annual K9 Veterans Day on March 13th.  March 13, 1942 of the birthdate of the United States K9 Corp, the successful result of the project called Dogs for Defense.  The effort behind a National K9 Veterans Day started with Vietnam Veteran and miltary working dog handler Joseph White of Florida.  Before he passed away in 2009 he had witnessed his own state of Florida pass a state proclamation for K9 Veterans Day.  There are now several states that have passed a proclamation or resolution for K9 Veterans Day:  Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, and New Jersey.

In 2011 the WKACP  received local proclamations from State College Borough Council and Harris Township Council to acknowledge an annual K9 Veterans Day locally.  WKACP then hosted the first K9 Veterans Day tribute at the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg, PA in 2012.

The WKACP approached PA House of Representatives Kerry Benninghoff who presented H. R. 658  K9 VETERANS DAY and it was unaimously voted in on April 2, 2012.    H.R. 658 now awaits Gov. Tom Corbett's signature!  The WKACP is looking forward to commemmorating the very first state wide K9 VETERANS DAY in 2013!
